Conference story

The Beşikçi Center for Humanity Research, part of the College of Humanities at the University of Duhok, announced an international conference titled "The Gulan Revolution: Origins, Causes, Events, and Achievements" on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Gulan Revolution. The conference microsite states it was scheduled for May 26–27, 2026 at the Convention Center of the University of Duhok, with Kurdish, Arabic and English as the conference languages, under the Kurdistan Regional Government – Iraq, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The published rationale places the Gulan Revolution's outbreak on May 26, 1976, continuing until 1991, following the end of the September Revolution (1961–1975) after the Algiers Agreement of March 6, 1975. Stated objectives include studying the revolution's political, military, cultural and social dimensions, documenting firsthand testimonies, encouraging Peshmerga veterans to record their memoirs, and establishing a comprehensive written archive; seven themes are listed and accepted papers are to be published in the official conference proceedings volume.
